John Wright

John joined our staff in August of 2019 and brings 18 years of experience in golf operations to include 4 years as Head Golf Professional in Indiana, 8 years as a Teaching Professional in Palm Beach Gardens and, most recently, 5 years as Senior Staff Instructor with RGA in Leesburg.

In 2015, John published The Open Stance and Three Short-Game Lessons on Amazon. In 2017, he published The First Five Years.... His website,, is the first, world-wide reference portal on golf swing efficiency. He takes special pride in being able to cure swings he has never seen.

John is a Class A PGA member, who enjoys helping golfers improve their games and teaching the game of golf to juniors.  While away from the club, John enjoys spending time with family, writing, finance, and playing music. 


Ben Mergler

A native of Waterford, Virginia. Ben Mergler joined our staff in October of 2017. Currently, Ben is our 2019 Tournament Director. Ben has a love and passion for the game of golf and is currently pursuing his PGA membership. While away from the club Ben enjoys bowling and spending time with his friends and family.

Trevor Pike
Second Assistant Golf Professional

Trevor has moved from outside operations to golf shop staff in recent years. He is capable and eager to help with any part of our operation. Trevor has a work ethic that makes him a valuable member of our SGCC team. 


Bob Benning

The Bob Benning School is Golf is available to both members and non-members.  Bob’s love and knowledge of the game, years of experience and his desire to see others improve their skills and enjoy the game, will put beginners at ease and help experienced golfers reach their potential.

As a player, Bob competed with many of the world's top professionals on the PGA TOUR, the Latin America Tour, the South African Tour, in two U.S. Opens and PGA Championships; and in Scotland, Portugal and Bermuda with club teams. Bob worked with ABC-TV golf telecasts, assisting Chris Schenkel, Jim McKay, Byron Nelson and Dave Marr in their descriptions of major golf championships throughout the U.S.  He also worked as an on-course reporter for major championships in the U.S. and Great Britain.
